Delamotte's 2018 Blanc de Blancs is only the fourth edition since 2008. Since Michel Fauconnet found it expressive earlier, it was disgorged after four and half years of aging on the lees (as opposed to the six years typical of previous editions) with a dosage of 5.5 grams per liter. Sourced from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize, Oger, Cramant, Chouilly and Oiry, it comes from a lower-acid vintage that’s charming and inviting, revealing aromas of tangerine, dried white flowers and pear. Full-bodied, generous and even powerful, it is underpinned by ripe yet vibrant acidity. It will offer a broad drinking window, but to minimize the vintage signature and maximize reflection of its origins, a few extra years under cork are advisable.

Based on the 2020 vintage and complemented by 15% reserve wines from 2019 and 2018, the latest release of Delamotte’s NV Brut Rosé was disgorged with a dosage of eight grams per liter. It reveals notes of cherry, smoke, red apple and roses. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, rich and gastronomic, with ripe acidity and a certain phenolic presence, informed by 12% Pinot Noir vinified as red wine. This is a charming, easily approachable wine that concludes with a rather sweet, perfumed finish, making one wonder if there is an element of dosage at play.

Delamotte's NV Brut Blanc de Blancs, based on the 2018 vintage and complemented by 15% reserve wines from 2017 and 2016, is sourced from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize and Oger. Disgorged in early 2023 with seven grams per liter dosage, it offers aromas of candied lemon peel, honeysuckle and sweet pastries. Medium to full-bodied, with a rich core of fruit but a refreshing, delicately chalky finish, it’s a cuvée that, for most people, defines Delamotte. In years when Salon is not made, it’s the NV Blanc de Blancs that incorporates the fruit from the 19 parcels in Le Mesnil that inform Salon. It will be even better with additional time post disgorgement.
