The 2018 Pinot Noir Grand H is from old vines in the Hengst and offers a deep, rich and generous bouquet that is quite oxidative and shows rather baked red and dark fruits intertwined with refreshing calcareous and iodine as well as very fine tannin and oak notes. Lush and generous on the palate, this is a full-bodied, wide and charmingly round and balanced Pinot with intensity but also a warmth and ripeness that is not Rhenish anymore but from further south. The wine is generous and charming but lacks a bit of tension, drive and freshness. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2023.
