The 2011 Rieussec, a blend of 95% Semillon, 2% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Muscadelle is an absolute dream. There is wonderful precision and mineralité on the nose, the new oak more integrated than a few months ago. The palate is beautifully balanced with clear honey, brioche and pralines, a sensual Rieussec that is utterly charming, hints of nougat and almond lingering on the long finish. Gorgeous! Tasted April 2016.

The Château Rieussec 2014 is a blend of 93% Semillon, 5% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle, picked from 15 to 29 October through seven tries,the yield half the normal crop at 13 hectoliters per hectare. CharlesChevalier, how lest we forget started here and not chez Lafite, told me that
the beginning of September had overripe grapes with passerillage – the second part had very good levels of botrytis. The blend is from these two
parts. The bouquet is very well defined with crystal clear honeysuckle and white peach scents. The palate is beautifully balanced with nigh on perfect acidity that makes this seem just so…effortless. I would like to see a little more persistence on the finish, but otherwise this is classic Rieussec that might...and I stress might...just give that Sauternes beginning with the 25th letter of the alphabet, a run for its money.

A blend of 86% Sémillon and 14% Sauvignon Blanc, the 2015 Rieussec reveals a bright, pale straw-gold color and is a little closed at this youthful stage, yet it offers wonderful purity and depth, featuring notes of lemon marmalade, orange blossoms, beeswax and acacia honey with hints of preserved kumquats and peach compote. Very elegant and fine in the medium to full-bodied mouth, it features a racy backbone cutting through the earthy and citrus layers, finishing long and spicy.

The 2005 Rieussec is a blend of 90% Semillon, 8% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle picked between 23 September and 27 October. It has a fabulous bouquet that is mineral-rich and tensile. The palate repeats its performance from last year: focused, tense, laden with botrytis-rich fruit with a crystalline and sorbet-fresh finish that seals the deal. One of the best releases from the estate in recent years. Tasted April 2016.

The 1998 Rieussec is medium gold colored and scented of paraffin, dried
lemon peel, key lime pie and musk perfume with an earthy undercurrent.
Very rich, concentrated and sexy in the mouth, it sports layer upon
layer of citrus, earth and fungi notes with seamless freshness and
fantastic length. Wow.

The 2004 Rieussec has a very composed and generous bouquet with intense dried honey, quince and smoky notes that unfold nicely in the glass. The palate is ripe and sensual on the entry, the oak present but very well-integrated. There is good depth here, with touches of white pepper sprinkled over the harmonious finish. This is a very competent Rieussec that feels long and satisfying, although it does not possess the personality of say, de Fargues of Raymond-Lafon. This is a decent, workmanlike Rieussec. Drink now-2025. Tasted February 2014.

Tasted single blind against its peers. The Chateau Rieussec 2008 should become an excellent Sauternes for the vintage. It has a floral bouquet with peach, tinned apricot and a touch of marmalade, all with fine delineation, and touches of lemon curd developing with aeration. The palate is mellifluous on the entry, with great depth and a luscious, vanillary note with hints of orange peel, marmalade and quince towards the long finish. Excellent. Tasted January 2012.
