The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Village opens in the glass with aromas of peach, toasted nuts and white flowers. Medium-bodied, satiny and chalky, it's delicate and fine-boned, with a middle-weight, understated personality.

The most ethereal as well as the most elegant of Leflaive's whites is the 2021 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru, a deep, full-bodied wine redolent of white flowers, sweet citrus oil, bread dough, iodine, fresh mint and wet stones. Satiny, layered and incisive, with lovely depth and purity, it's taut and electric, concluding with a long, chalky finish.

The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon is youthfully reserved, unwinding in the glass with aromas of pear and green apple mingled with toasted nuts, freshly baked bread and iodine. Medium-bodied, tangy and electric, with racy acids and a searingly saline finish, it will age with grace.

The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Village offers up aromas of pear, sweet citrus oil, toasted nuts and iodine, followed by a medium to full-bodied, tangy and chiseled palate that's taut, pure and saline, with a racy spine of acidity and a penetrating finish. This will reward a bit of bottle age.

The 2020 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru dominates the range this year, wafting from the glass with notes of waxy citrus zest, white flowers, nutmeg and wet stones, followed by a full-bodied, racy and electric palate, with a satiny attack that segues into a deep, seamless mid-palate. Chiseled and concentrated, uniting texture and tension, it concludes with a long, penetrating finish.

Leflaive's 2019 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with scents of Anjou pear, orange oil, clear honey, white flowers and freshly baked bread, framed by a deft touch of youthful reduction. Full-bodied, concentrated and incisive, it's textural but taut, its satiny attack segueing into a deep, chiseled mid-palate, concluding with a long, electric finish. This is a brilliant Chevalier with a long life ahead of it.

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon is excellent, and a clear step up over the Puligny Village, something that can't be taken for granted. Offering up aromas of lemon, beeswax, white flowers and blanched almonds, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and nicely concentrated, with tangy acids, chewy extract and a long, precise finish. It's promisingly tight-knit and should develop further before it's bottled.

Like the Pucelles, the 2017 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is quite tensile and reserved, unfurling in the glass with aromas of green orchard fruit, iodine, orange rind and creamy new wood. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, textural and fleshy, but taut—even firm—at the core, with good concentration, tangy acid and a bright, chalky finish. Like all these releases, I'm looking forward to seeing it from bottle.
