Derived from old vines in the commune of Brochon, Trapet's 2019
Gevrey-Chambertin Ostrea offers up aromas of cherries, raw cocoa and
coniferous forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, it's deeper and more
introverted?and more of a long-haul prospect?than the domaine's
immensely charming regular Gevrey, with a layered core and a long,
mineral finish.

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Capita is the usual blend of fruit
from the premiers crus En Ergot, Corbeaux and Combottes, supplemented by
a visual selection of small-berried clusters from Petite Chapelle and
Clos Prieur, though Trapet notes that this may be the cuvee's swan song,
as his sons are keen to vinify these parcels separately. Wafting from
the glass with scents of cassis, dark berries, peonies, raw cocoa and
spices, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and layered, with terrific
concentration, lively acids and an elegantly complete profile.
Concentrated but beautifully refined, it's a fabulous wine in the making.

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Village offers up notes of cherries, cassis,
espresso roast and loamy soil, subtly framed by new wood. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, tangy and acid driven, with fine tannins and a long, vibrant finish. With some bottle age this should evolve into a beautifully transparent Gevrey.

The 2017 Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru is lovely, unfurling in the
glass with aromas of sweet wild berries, grilled meats, peonies, dark
chocolate and Indian spices. On the palate, the wine is medium to
full-bodied, fine boned and tensile, with excellent concentration and
depth at the sappy core, fine tannins and a bright line of animating
acidity. The Latricieres is second only to the Chambertin this year, and
very different in personality.
