This year, the 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Village includes lieux-dits Clos, Champ and En Vosne, along with premier cru Champeaux, and the result is unsurprisingly excellent, exhibiting aromas of sweet plums, raspberries, petals and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny palate endowed with attractive flesh and texture.

The 2021 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru is very pretty, unfurling in the glass with notes of sweet berries and plums mingled with orange zest, vine smoke and spices. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, with lively acids, supple tannins and a saline, mineral finish, it's a beautifully perfumed, sensual wine in the making.

Another cuvée that stands out as a best-ever for the domaine is the basic 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Village. Revealing aromas of cherries, sweet berries and petals, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and charming, with an enveloping profile and beautiful purity of fruit. -

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut Saint-Jacques is quite tightly wound, exhibiting notions of dark berries, loamy soil, spices, licorice, vine smoke and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, bright and lively, with powdery tannins and a saline finish, it's more reserved out of the gates than the more demonstrative 2019 at the same stage. -

The 2020 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has the potential to emerge as Duroché's finest to date, but I suspect it will require a touch more patience to hit its peak than the demonstrative 2019. Unfurling in the glass with aromas of cassis and blackberry mingled with licorice, orange zest, peonies and sweet spices, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acids and a seamless, layered profile. Animated by a bright spine of acidity, it's a brilliant bottle in the making. -
