The 2018 Pinot Noir Brauneberger Klostergarten *** offers a pure, refined and finely toasty dark fruit aroma expressed with great finesse and elegance but most of all complexity and depth. Round and lush on the highly refined and silky-textured palate, this is a full-bodied, very intense and powerful, refreshing and saline Pinot with a very long and aromatic finish. This is already impressive, but the wine will still need five or seven years to fully shine bright and intermingle all its components to reveal its full beauty. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022.

Like very fine perfume! The 2018 Pinot Noir Graacher Himmelreich *** opens with a beautifully fine and intense, slate-driven and very particular, highly energetic bouquet that initially shows notes of barbecue coal ashes intertwined with iodine and cherry but then becomes very delicate and utterly complex with aeration. A unique, world-class Pinot Noir again. Silky, refined and very elegant on the palate, this is a crystalline, saline, enormously intense as well as sustainable Pinot with great purity and finesse that uplifts the intensity and complexity of this vigorous beauty that will remain on your mind even longer than on the palate. No heavyweight here, but it's possibly the most energetic Himmelreich I have tasted here so far. And this, don't forget, from the very dry and hot 2018 vintage. A stunner! 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine from AP 126 20 in July 2022.

The 2018 Pinot Noir Brauneberger Mandelgraben * shows a deep, fresh and concentrated, slatey and flinty bouquet of dark cherries and berries intertwined with toasty and smoky, even some coal ash tones and certainly discreet slate aromas. Full-bodied, lush and juicy on the palate, this is a ripe, round, very intense and long but also energetic and remarkably finessed and elegant Pinot Noir with soft and silky tannins. The finish is long, intense and saline and balances the vintage's richness with delicacy and finesse. A superb Pinot Noir in the one-star category. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022.

The lime-green-golden 2019 Bernkasteler Lay Auslese ** (White Capsule) is deep, intense and concentrated yet elegant and still precise and flinty on the nose. The attack on the palate is stunningly young and vital before the elegant and crystalline wine reveals its complexity and inner power. This is a tightly structured, very digestible and still edgy Auslese that needs another 5-6 years or so to settle and shine. This 2019 is enormously salty on the finish and highly promising. Bottled in September last year and tasted in May 2021.

The 2019 Pinot Blanc Haus Klosterberg exhibits a lime-green, shimmering
citrus color along with a remarkably elegant and aromatic sur lie
bouquet. Round and charming with flattering lush and ripe fruit on the
palate, this has fine, crystalline, Riesling-like piquancy and salty
acidity on the haughty, stimulating finish. This wine includes chalky
terroirs in the upper Mosel on the border with Luxembourg. This is an
excellent gastronomic wine with impressive finesse and delicacy. Tasted
in May 2021.

The 2019 Urziger Wurzgarten Spatlese (White Capsule) already shows on the nose its perfect ripeness and elegant richness in a highly refined
and enormously flinty, even tannic manner. The palate is very elegant, lush and ripe yet most of all vibrantly fresh and salty-piquant,
revealing a salivating, firmly structured and tannic finish. This is a Wurzgarten to keep for at least 3-4 years before opening. Tasted in May 2021.

The 2018 Riesling Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Auslese ** (White Capsule) is pure, ripe and intense on the refined and elegant, flinty nose with its ripe and concentrated fruit and white asparagus aromas. Round and intense on the palate, with great purity and concentrated fruit aromas, this is a rich and powerful yet far too young and too reductive Sonnenuhr to tell about its true talents. The finish is tight and piquant yet still astringent and asks for years of bottle aging. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

The yellow-golden 2019 Graacher Himmelreich Auslese ** (Golden Capsule) is brilliantly clear yet also intense and concentrated on the pure,
fresh, finely raisined and herbal (rosemary), slightly honeyed nose that is complex and ambitious. Dense and juicy, with a vivacious purity and
great finesse, this is a concentrated, vibrantly fresh and tightly structured Auslese with a remarkably digestible finish. There might be
some percentage of botrytis that gives this Auslese a lush texture that is otherwise terribly clear and vital. I’d keep it for at least 7 years
and up to 40, if only I could. Attention, though, the wine has serious acidity. Tasted from AP 39 20 in May 2021.

Molitor’s fascinating 2017 Pinot Noir Trarbacher Schlossberg *** grows on a steep hill slope with very rocky terroir surrounded by bushes. The newest release is deep, concentrated and fleshy on the coolish and floral, almost Alpine-scented bouquet that is very clear, wild and spicy. Full-bodied, round, fresh and juicy on the elegant, silky-textured and vivacious palate, this is a remarkably refreshing and grippy Pinot with fine, concentrated aromas of wild strawberries, raspberries and cherries as well as black berries. There is no fat on the palate, just athletics, finesse and energetic purity. I admit, I am a great supporter of this terroir (the butterfly Riesling paradise of Jakob Tennstedt begins a few meters forward), but this is a seriously great Pinot. Tasted in May 2021.

The 2018 Riesling Urziger Wurzgarten Spatlese (White Capsule) is pure, fresh and flinty on the clear and crunchy, very elegant and complex nose.
Pure and almost astringent on the salty palate, this is a piquant, very nervous and persistently salty Riesling with great tension, vitality and finesse. A great and promising Wurzgarten. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.
