The 2009 Grands-Echezeaux is a fresh, vibrant wine. Minerality takes center stage in this perfumed, sweet Burgundy. The clenched style calls for patience, but the wine’s potential seems quite high. The finish is vibrant and impeccably polished in every way. The Grands-Echezeaux is made from purchased wine. Not surprisingly, this is totally different in style from the Echezeaux. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034.

The 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (Domaine des Héritiers Jadot), which is continuing its élevage in foudre, unwinds in the glass with notes of citrus oil, pear, hazelnuts, fresh mint and subtle reduction. Full-bodied, layered and chalky, with a rich core of fruit that's still youthfully tightly wound, it concludes with a long, resonant finish. It's one of the high points of the range this year. -

The 2021 Moulin-à-Vent originates from eight different vineyards: Rochegrès, Carquelin, Champ de Cour, Thorins, Les Vérillats, La Roche, La Rochelle and Les Caves. It's a lush expression of the vintage, with a fruit-driven core of juicy red and black currants, cherries and red plums with top notes of lilac petals, dried sage, sweet spices and white pepper. On the medium-bodied palate, the tannins are finely woven, lending gentle support to the succulent, impressively concentrated flavors, making for a seamless, supple mouthfeel with a tangy finish. It's one of the most accessible wines from the estate's 2021 lineup.

Revisited in bottle, the 2018 Santenay 1er Cru Maladière (Domaine Prieur-Brunet) bursts with aromas of cherries, berries and red fruit compote. Medium to full-bodied, with succulent acids and youthfully chewy tannins, it will be at its best with food—or after a bit of bottle age.

The 2016 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Couchereaux has a pure, quite lush bouquet with plenty of juicy red berry fruit laced with leather and tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, juicy tannin, not the most complex Beaune on the block but with admirable structure on the saline finish. Fine.

Full-bodied, velvety and multidimensional, it's layered and complete, with lively acids, ripe tannins and a long, resonant finish. This will be very long-lived.

The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Clos de la Chapelle (Duc de Magenta) is showing nicely from bottle, unwinding in the glass with notes of pear, crisp yellow orchard fruit, fresh apricot, pastry cream and toasted macadamia nut. This is medium to full-bodied, tangy and tightly wound, with racy acids and a phenolic finish. It should develop nicely in the cellar and once again represents one of the longer-haul propositions in the range.
